The Nantes University Hospital needs more efficient and attractive facilities to better serve its patients.

Plans call for grouping the essential teaching hospital functions in the city centre, resulting in higher quality of service and the development of a centre of excellence for teaching, research and business.

A study is currently under way on the possibility of grouping the Hotel Dieu hospital (currently in the city centre) and Nord Laënnec hospital (currently in Saint-Herblain) on a single site on the Ile de Nantes.
