Floating barge on the western end of the island, at the Shipyards Park
This floating barge (57 m long by 16 m wide by 8 m high) built by naval architect Olivier Flahault, will dock upstream of the shipyards dock.
It will house:
- a bar with a terrace on the upper deck. The terrace will be open to the public.
- a restaurant on the middle deck (seating capacity 150)
- rooms for seminars, receptions and events on the lower deck (modular spaces with seating capacity of 400 to 700).
The barge will be accessed via gangways from the Shipyards Park. A mooring platform on the lower deck will also provide boat access.
All the walls of the barge will be made of glass, offering splendid views of the city and the river. This project will provide added value to the site and the river. Similar developments exist in all major European cities, and existed in Nantes at the beginning of the century.
Once construction is completed at the Mécasoud Shipyards in Saint-Nazaire, the barge will be placed in service in Nantes in spring 2011.
